Current Research Projects
To what extent does homeland matter?
Diaspora Communities and Campaigning: explores the appeal of homeland in relation to identity politics and organisational activity and with implications for integration in the British context

Can national events create cohesion?
Why are some national events and national days more successful than others? Multi-funded project on unexplored issues such as ‘national events’, ‘national days’, diversity, volunteering and cohesion.

The Politics of Recognition and National Museums: nation-building, diversity and rival narratives.
This project on national museums is part of a long standing interest in national symbols and nations as ‘symbolic regimes’ and addresses the role of national museums in ongoing nation-building process in Europe and recent patterns of repatriation of cultural heritage and human remains within Scandinavia.

Does ethnic community organisation promote or prevent integration?
Research proposal submitted with Professor Anthony Heath, FBA, CBE, Nuffield College and the Department of Sociology at University of Oxford, investigating socio-political integration with regards to the bonding and bridging of social capital.

Migration and Polarisation – patterns, mechanisms and experiences.
Part of Fortes research programme "The Challenges of Polarization on Swedish Labour Market"
