Background
Agnes Gagyi obtained her PhD in Social Communication in 2011 at the University of Pécs, Hungary. Since 2017 she is Researcher at the Department of Sociology and Work Science at University of Gothenburg. Before that she worked as Associate Adjunct Professor at Eszterházy Károly University, Hungary, and conducted research projects at New Europe College, Romania, and George Mason University, USA.
Specialist Fields
Gagyi is a social movement researcher, focusing on connections between contemporary and historical movements in Central and Eastern Europe, and the social, economic and political aspects of the region’s long-term world market integration. Her previous research projects involved the international embeddedness of the alterglobalization movement in Hungary and Romania, Central and Eastern European versions of post-2008 anti-austerity movements, comparative perspectives on waves of economic crisis and political mobilization in Hungary and Romania, and reorganizations of intellectual and expert knowledge structures during changes in modes of world market integration.
Current research
"Housing, social mobilisations and urban governance in Central and Eastern Europe". Funded by Formas (2017-20). The project aims at critically investigating the nexus of urban governance, housing policy and housing protest in Bucharest, Budapest and Vilnius.
Research Areas
Area studies – Central and Eastern Europe
