About Linda Weichselbraun

PhD candidate in Sociology and Science and Technology Studies (STS) at the Department of Sociology and Work Science, University of Gothenburg.

Background: 

Linda holds a master´s degree in sociology and a degree in journalism, both obtained at the University of Gothenburg. She has been working as a journalist since 2001, specialized in social issues and psychiatry. Also has a background as an activist working to improve coercive psychiatric care in Sweden. Has worked several years within the healtcare improvement program "Better Care - Less Coercion", led by the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKL). Started her PhD studies in August 2015.

Current research:

Linda´s PhD project explores the relation between neuroscience, society, identity and perceptions of normality, with a special focus on trans/gender identity and activism.

Teaching and supervising:

Currently teaching at courses in criminology and sociology, and also at courses on social relations in teacher- and  preschool teacher education. Supervises graduate students in sociology.

Collaboration: 

  • Member of the NeuroGenderings network.
  • Member and co-founder of the Nordic network Bodies in/and STS.
